VbV is a secure e-commerce initiative developed by Visa, which is focused on increasing e-commerce transactions, promoting consumer confidence and protection, increasing member and merchant profitability.

The Internet has created new online shopping convenience for Visa cardholders and merchants. E-commerce purchase volume continues to increase and still maintains a significant growth potential over the next five to ten years. Even with these favorable trends, there are concerns regarding the potential for fraudulent use of payment cards on the Internet. It is to address this risk that Verified by Visa (VbV) was created.

It is a unique service that uses personal passwords or identity information to help protect Visa cards against unauthorized use. Once activated your Visa cards cannot be used for online purchases without your personal password.
